Jenna Bly

Jenna Berman Robertson Bly (they/them/iel) is a queer, trans midwife and writer living in Toronto with their wife, three teenage daughters, a doodle named Atlas, and two kittens named Chicken and Duck. Jenna holds a BA in English Literature and Religious Studies as well as an MA of Educational Leadership Studies from McGill University and a BHSc (hons.) in Midwifery from Toronto Metropolitan University. Jenna is a founding co-lead of the MATCH (Midwifery and Toronto Community Health) Program at South Riverdale Community Health Centre. Since fall 2024, Jenna served as an invited member of the Reading Board for The Plentitudes and read in fiction for the journal’s 2025 Fiction Prize. As of fall 2025, Jenna has joined the Editorial Board reading in fiction at The Plentitudes.
Jenna’s short fiction adaptation of a novel length work, “Slackdrop” won the 2024 Fiction Prize for The Plentitudes. In February 2025, Jenna’s queer, body horror short story “Close All Your Eyes” was published in the Canadian literary magazine, The Ex-Puritan. Their non-fiction essay, “Theseus’ Ship” appears, read by the author, on “Strength in Practice,” the Canadian Association of Midwives podcast, Episode 6 “Midwifery Care Beyond the Gender Binary.” A short story version of a novel-length work-in-progress titled Jules* was shortlisted in 2024 for LitMag’s Virginia Woolf Short Fiction Prize. And Slackdrop, the novel-length work, was a runner-up for the Red Hen Press Cai Emmon’s Fiction Award in spring of 2025.
